BUFFALO, N.Y. The long-awaited World Junior Championship rematch between the United States and Canada didn't disappoint. For the first time since their gold medal epic was decided in a shootout last year, the arch-rival hockey powerhouses went the distance againFriday in a snowy, preliminary round spectacle that ended asa 4-3 USAvictory in front of a , the first game ever played outdoors at the international level. Team USA wasstagnant in the first two periods Friday but rallied back to tie the game 3-all with a pair of third-period goals 36 seconds apart by ScottPerunovichand BradyTkachuk. Goalie Jake Oettinger didn't allow a goal in the shootout and the Americans won 4-3, a bit of deja vu from 2017. Canada cruised to a pair of wins to start the tournament after settling for the silver medal in 2017. But the Americans, out to win back-to-back under-20 golds for the first time in USA Hockey history, got caught looking ahead Thursday in on the eve of the tournament's marquee event.
